PHILANTHROPY

Gamma Phi Beta's philanthropic mission to "Build Strong Girls" encourages girls and women to build social, mental, and spiritual resiliency. In keeping with this mission, Gamma Phi Beta has partnered with Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run builds confidence and resiliency in elementary and middle school-age girls, as they train to run a 5k. By instilling healthy habits and mindsets in young girls during their most formative years, Girls on the Run and Gamma Phi Beta encourage girls to always dream and act boldly.

Every fall, Gamma Phi hosts our fall philanthropy event: Gamma Phire. We invite all our peers, professors, and the local community to cozy up around various fire pits, munch on a selection of homemade baked goods, and enjoy live music from William and Mary's many musical groups. Guests buy tickets in the weeks prior, and the funds go directly to our philanthropies.

In the spring, the Alpha Chi chapter holds our Moonball tournament to raise money for our philanthropies. Students across campus group themselves into teams of either 2-3 or 4-6 and compete for the title of “Moonball Champions.” The winners also get a prize basket filled with gift cards and items donated by local businesses. Our last Moonball tournament raised over $3,500 dollars for Girls on the Run, all of which went directly to the charity.

Members of the Alpha Chi chapter also support our philanthropy by cheering on local Girls on the Run chapters at semi-annual 5ks in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Richmond.
